Miami Healthcare Facility Reduces HVAC Energy Costs by 23%

A four-story primary care facility in Miami reached out to explore ways to reduce energy costs based on its business operating hours. Until that point, they had not implemented any HVAC energy-saving strategies, resulting in high energy expenses.

Challenge

The facility had a Building Management System (BMS) in place, but it was not being utilized. As a result, the HVAC system ran continuously, leading to excessive energy costs.

The facility’s HVAC system included two large 90-ton chilled water units, a 300-ton air-cooled chiller, and three chilled water pumps. However, two of the pumps operated non-stop without alternating, further increasing energy consumption.

Solution

  1. Our team conducted an on-site walkthrough and a BAS inspection using the facility’s BAS interface. We engaged with building operators to understand operational constraints and identify opportunities for energy savings.
  2. We then implemented energy management solutions to optimize HVAC energy consumption.

Results

Facility Energy Savings Since 2020

$100,000.00

TOTAL DOLLARS SAVED

Despite the facility’s long operating hours, the implemented solutions led to annual energy cost savings exceeding $51,000. Overall, HVAC energy consumption decreased by 23%, and the savings have remained consistent since implementation in 2020.
